Security and Privileges

BixAgent and BixServer requires no special privileges to run in Linux. Most functionality are available running as a regular user in read only mode.

Manage FreeBSD, Mac OS X and Windows

Organization that have other operating systems, can easily manage and perform simple tasks as well as advanced monitoring from the Linux version of BixServer and utilize the Linux version of BixDesktop. BixData looks and functions the same across all platforms, and you can connect directly from Linux to another Operating System running BixAgent. BixDesktop on Linux support both GNOME and KDE.

VMWare and Xen Management on Linux

BixServer supports management and monitoring of both VMWare and Xen running on Linux. Monitor critical resource usage of both Xen and VMWare without the need to use different tools or specialized scripts. Control includes startup, shutdown, pause and resume functions, as well as remote shutdown of all Xen or VMWare guests.

Monitor VM guests for excess resource utilization and shutdown the specific VM guest on demand, automatically.

HTML Reporting and Apache

BixServer automatically generates HTML reports for each of your graphs and tables that are setup using BixDesktop. Integration with Apache is as easy as creating a soft link to the BixServer data/reporting/out directory.

BixAgent Linux Deployment

BixServer and BixAgent is easily deployed in a Linux environment. Both run without root privileges. Installation is as simple as untarring the archives. BixAgent can easily be deployed to many servers using scp, rsync or any other method of copying files to a set of servers. BixAgent auto configures on startup, and system administrators can modify and alter the BixAgent installer archive before deploying, ensuring the exact same setup on all machines.

MySQL and PostgreSQL Support

BixServer on Linux supports both MySQL (version 4.1+) and PostgreSQL (8+). This allows you to integrate with your existing Linux stack and existing data manipulation and extraction tools. Import Operational and server monitored data from BixServer into your existing environment or use any scripting environment such as Perl / Python to connect to the BixData tables. BixData published an open format for data storage and uses transparent table descriptions and standard types.

BixServer comes with a pre-built optional PostgreSQL install that runs without root privileges to get you up and running in minutes.
