Mac OS X
BixData is designed for native support of Mac OS X. All three components of BixData run on Mac OS X and are the easiest solution for OS X to deploy.
BixData is a leading solution for OS X with unmatched scalability. A single BixServer for OS X can monitor up to 2000 Xserve servers and 15 000 OS X or network services. OS X specific monitoring includes availability checks for services such as AFP, OS X application resource usage and the OS X network stack.
Designed to support the OS X architecture, native instrumentation provides more than 1 000 data points that are available in real-time up to the second response time.

Manage FreeBSD, Linux and Windows
From your OS X Desktop system administrators can manage other operating systems. They can easily manage and perform simple tasks as well as advanced monitoring from the OS X version of BixServer and utilize the OS X version of BixDesktop. BixData looks and functions the same across all platforms, and you can connect directly from OS X to another Operating System running BixAgent.

Universal Binary Support
BixData is the first system management product to deploy using Universal Binary and support both Power PC and Intel based Apple hardware. BixData components, including BixServer, BixAgent and BixDesktop have all been released as Universal. A Universal Binary simplifies deployment and ensures that companies can support legacy architectures.
Security and Privileges
BixAgent and BixServer require no special privileges to run on OS X. Most functionality are available running as a regular user in read only mode.
VMWare and Xen Management on OS X
BixServer supports management and monitoring of both VMWare and Xen running on any supported Operating System. You can monitor critical resource usage of both Xen and VMWare running remotely, directly from your OS X desktop. Control includes startup, shutdown, pause and resume functions, as well as remote shutdown of all Xen or VMWare guests.
Monitor VM guests for excess resource utilization and shutdown the specific VM guest on demand, automatically.
You can even run BixServer on OS X and manage VMWare or Xen on Linux or Windows.

HTML Reporting and Apache
BixServer automatically generates HTML reports for each of your graphs and tables that are setup using BixDesktop. Integration with Apache is as easy as creating a soft link to the BixServer data/reporting/out directory.

BixAgent Mac OS X Deployment
BixServer and BixAgent is easily deployed in a OS X environment. Both run without root privileges and because of our use of Universal Binary, there is no need for specific images for Power PC or Intel hardware. Installation is as simple as untarring the archives. BixAgent can easily be deployed to many servers using scp, rsync or any other method of copying files to a set of servers. BixAgent auto configures on startup, and system administrators can modify and alter the BixAgent installer archive before deploying, ensuring the exact same setup on all machines.
PostgreSQL Support Built In
BixServer on OS X ships with PostgreSQL (8.1) built in. This allows you to get up and running in minutes, yet maintain open SQL data storage. Import Operational and server monitored data from BixServer into your existing environment or use any scripting environment such as Perl / Python to connect to the BixData tables. Or use existing tools that support PostgreSQL. BixData has published an open format for data storage and uses transparent table descriptions and standard types.
