BixData provides a complete solution in terms of monitoring, management and reporting. BixData focuses on many areas of Systems Management including server and cluster management.

  • Server Management

    • Manage servers by monitoring the many aspects of availability, performance and resource usage and then manage by using notifications and alerts.

    System administrators can instantly be notified through desktop alerts, email or cell phone; or escalate errors through their organization. BixServer also supports built-in actions such as executing scripts locally or remotely, or taking any number of built-in actions.

    Service availability for HTTP, POP3, SMTP, file servers and other application servers can be monitored and managed through the same system of notifications and alerts.

    Detailed notification history allows you to track the status of service checks and events in date order. It also shows detailed results for each service check and detailed results on each action taken as a result of a notification or escalation.

  • Network Management

    • BixData can monitor any network device such as routers, switches and firewalls. Management utilities in BixServer include network scan, which allows you to scan a range of IP addresses or an entire subnet for information

    • Open ports
    • SNMP information

    Network topology automatically scans your network and provides a visual topology of devices and servers.

  • Cluster Management and Data Center Management

    • BixData is designed to scale from 2 servers to clusters of a 1000 servers and is the only solution built from the ground up for commodity hardware and commodity storage. BixData offers real-time visibility built from the ground up for clusters and grid computing applications.

    The BixDesktop allows scalable visualization to handle 100s and even 1000s of servers in a cluster or grid.
    The Scoreboard is one example of some of the cluster specific features that BixData has that helps you understand large scale environments and keep an eye out for trends.

    BixData is very well suited for data gathering on 100s of servers and 1000s of services. Clusters and grids face many challenges in managing the environment related to temperature, power usage and machine density. One specific feature that showcases BixData’s out of the box capabilities and large scale data gathering, is the monitoring of Hard Disk temperatures.
    BixAgent can monitor many devices that support SMART diagnostic information. BixData Operational Data Store can handle more than 30GB of data per data, and BixData reporting can easily pivot data based on any dimension. Generating graphs for Hard Disk temperature across hardware vendor, or comparing specific models, firmware revisions, or temperature performance, are all simple tasks.

  • Virtualization Management

    • BixData is the only software with the ability to manage Virtualization Infrastructure from VMWare and Xen. Seamlessly manage virtual machine hosts and virtual machine guests. Virtualization management is supported from any Operating System through BixDesktop connected to any BixServer. BixAgent supports VMWare and Xen management on Linux and VMWare management on Windows.

    You can monitor critical resource usage of both Xen and VMWare running remotely, directly from your BixDesktop. Management control includes startup, shutdown, pause and resume functions, as well as remote shutdown of all VMWare or Xen guests.
